1927Madam Tsang Chor-hang established Yew Wah School in Hong Kong. Yew means “to glorify” and Wah means “China”.
1932The first Yew Chung School was founded in Hong Kong.
1970s:After returning to Hong Kong from her doctoral study in Early Childhood Learning, Dr Betty Chan Po-king, Madam Tsang's daughter, inherited her mother’s vision and dedication in education. She became one of the pioneers of Hong Kong’s early childhood education by introducing new ideas and concepts to it.
1980-90s:The school was expanded to include Primary and Secondary Sections.
Yew Chung International School campuses in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai and other cities in China were set up.
1998Building upon the many decades of experience of Yew Chung International School in offering quality international education, Dr Betty Chan Po-king and Prof. Paul Yip Kwok-wah founded the Yew Wah schools with a passion to bring quality international education to mainland Chinese students.
2000The first Yew Wah International Education School opened in Yantai, offering programmes from early childhood education to upper secondary & university preparation.
2001Yew Wah School of Shanghai Changning was established.
2002Yew Wah International Education Kindergartens in Shanghai and Chongqing opened.
2004Dr Betty Chan was invited by the Alliance for International Education (AIE) to give a keynote address on a different perspective of International Education at the 2004 AIE World Conference in Dusseldorf, Germany.
2006Yew Wah opened its own Yew Wah Classroom in Somerset, UK. All students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in an authentic English environment, and cultivate their independent living skills.
2007Yew Wah International Education Kindergarten of Shenzhen opened.
2010Dr Betty Chan was awarded with an honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters from the University of Illinois for her success in advocating the unique concept of integrating the best of East and West in education and her outstanding contributions to early childhood education. Yew Wah Infant and Toddler Education Centre in Beijing opened.
2013Yew Wah International Education Kindergarten in Rizhao opened. Yew Wah International Education Kindergarten of Chongqing opened a second campus. Yew Wah Training Centre was established in Shenzhen, providing professional training to teachers.
2014Yew Wah International Education School in Huadu, Guangzhou opened.
Dr Betty Chan was awarded with an Honorary Fellowship from the Hong Kong Institute of Education in recognition of her recent and long-standing achievements and contributions to education.
2015Yew Wah's sister school, Yew Chung made an endowment in perpetuity to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), resulting in the “Yew Chung – Bernard Spodek Scholar in Early Childhood Education”.
Dr Betty Chan was awarded with an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws from the University of Bath in recognition of her distinguished career developing and promoting early childhood education and international education with the emphasis on supporting greater understanding between the East and the West and between those of different cultural backgrounds.
Yew Wah International Education School of Shanghai Lingang opened.
2016Knowle Hall, the new campus at Somerset, UK, operates in 2016, giving students the opportunity to immerse themselves in a truly English language learning environment and to gain cross-cultural experiences.
Yew Wah International Education School of Beijing in Yizhuang opened.
2017Opening of Yew Wah International Education School of Tongxiang .
